Happy Birthday to The Smoking Jacket! Instead of insisting you send us presents, we are going to giveaway a whole bunch of stuff to our amazing readers this week. Today two people will win the Third Rail System ($90 value). It’s a sleek, power-ready protective case (Slim Case) with a lightweight battery (Smart Battery) that can be added or removed as needed.
Image you are using your iPhone or other mobile device. You’re surfing the internet, watching movies, playing games, sending emails – then BOOM – your battery dies in the middle of the day. The Third Rail System is about to change all that. It’s the world’s thinnest battery-enabled protective case that allows you to add extra power when you need it and remove it when you don’t. Check out this video for more information:
To win, tell us about an inconvenient time when your phone battery died in the comments below. Was your girlfriend telling you that you never listen and the phone died? Did your car break down and then your battery ran out of life? Two winners will randomly win the Third Rail System (Slim Case and Smart Battery.)
Contest closes Monday July 25th.
Be sure to provide a legit e-mail address when you comment so we can contact you. Seriously, a lot of you won and never check your email.
Sorry, U.S. contestants only.
Check out the Third Rail System here: http://www.thirdrailmobility.com/ Come back tomorrow and later this week for more giveaways to celebrate The Smoking Jacket’s one year anniversary. Happy Birthday TSJ! Thanks for reading.

In college, a girl I had a mad crush on was supposed to call me before she got on her plane to go abroad for a semester. She did, but my battery died. Because of international cell phone rates, etc., we didn’t speak for six months.
That’s not how you want to be remembered.

My girlfriend and I were apart because I was away on business. We were talking on the phone and it was getting very intimate. I was laid back in my hotel bed and getting quite into it listening to her enjoyment of the conversation when my phone died.
By the time I got the charger out and reconnected the “moment” was lost.

Went to the airport to pickup my future inlaws. On the way home, the car died and soon after so did my phone. Had to flag down a passing car to call for help.

Had a smoking hot once in a life time one night stand with a girl that i had wanted for years. When things were getting heated she tells me she wants to record the coming session. I was beside myself until we finished and i look back in my phone and the battery died 2 mins in.

I will describe a time i wish the battery had died. Several years ago when Nextel push to talk was still around, my girlfriend and I were having a good ole time in the bedroom one Saturday afternoon when my dad starts the push to talk action. He kept slowly repeating my name probably thinking i couldn’t hear him when the phone was actually right next to the bed and the volume was quite loud. I was starting to lose focus so I finally had to stop my moves pick up the phone and tell him quickly, i would call him back, very busy at the moment and I returned to making my girlfriend happy.

Someone called me that I was winner of a sweepstake and then my phone died. Had no idea what I won and they never called back. They probably thought I hung up on them. Oh well…

My cell phone is also my alarm, calendar and GPS… not cool when it dies the morning of my job interview.

One time, we had the local utility calling us to shed our megawatts because of a heat wave caused their peak demand to exceed their capacity. A dead phone does not receive so a blackout ensued because we didn’t shut down our beer vats. My bad.
