TSJ Talks to Camille Crimson

Sheila Heti recently quipped, in her novel, How Should a Person Be, “We live in an age of some really great blow job artists. Every era has its art form. The nineteenth century, I know, was tops for the novel.”

TSJ talks to a star of the BJ-era, the woman behind TheArtofBlowjob.com, Camille Crimson, about her subject of expertise.

The Smoking Jacket: What, in your work in adult entertainment, has made you want to focus on BJs.

Camille Crimson: I think that it’s a mix of a few things.  First and foremost, I just love giving blow jobs. I would never focus on something that didn’t give me immense pleasure and it felt like a natural fit. They’re really engaging to film, they take a lot of skill and there are infinite ways to give them. Beyond that, it almost felt like a duty to show my favourite sex act in a new light. Blow jobs are popular, but the vast majority of them were focused on being fairly rough or just kind of laissez-faire. I wanted to glorify the blow job and show how beautiful it can be.

TSJ: That’s really nice of you. What brought this on?

CC: A lot of it is a response to what I had seen in porn so far. Taking it slow is a wonderful way to really feel the sensuality and to really accentuate all the little details. There is so much taken for granted in a really great blow job, so getting to explore every sensation and moment is something that feels totally new each time. As for fun, I think there’s a way to make blow jobs (and porn in general) a lot more light and playful. Even in seductive moments, there can be a little smile or tease. It certainly helps that I shoot with my boyfriend. Fun and spontaneous silliness is part of who we are together, and I love when that comes out in our videos. It just shows the real us and you feel the love. It’s hard not to.

TSJ: Now that you’re an expert, do people ask you for tips a lot?

CC: Yes, I do get a lot of questions and I even write several advice columns, one focusing on reader submissions and one focusing on special topics regarding male sexuality. I get a lot of questions about how to give a better blow job, how to get used to the taste, how to get a blow job… Beyond that, there are a lot of questions about being more adventurous, making your own porn, issues relating to body image, issues relating to confronting kinks…  People are always so interested to talk about sex and I am so happy to answer.
