Last week I made my way down to a regulation beach volleyball court constructed in the middle of New York City’s Times Square to meet with pro beach volleyball players and NBA star Kevin Love. I had no idea what I was going for…I was just told there would be a special announcement and that the event was being thrown by Jose Cuervo. But that’s also exactly how every TSJ-related meeting I’ve ever been asked to attend was described.
Filled with curiosity, I made my way over to the court and listened to Kevin Love announce that, in an effort to remain active during the NBA lockout, he will be competing in the Manhattan Beach Open as part of the Jose Cuervo Beach Volley Ball Series.
After the press conference, I watched Kevin play on the court with pros Sean Scott, John Hyden, Jess Gysin and Christal Engle. And he is actually really good!
I’ve given you the facts-now let me give you four reasons why you should give a damn.
1. Baby Got Back
Let’s just cut to the chase. I have never seen butts like these in my entire life. Believe me when I tell you, they are not of this earth. Because I have no shame and I am here to serve the fine people of TSJ, I asked Jess Gysin and Christal Engle how they got such amazingly perfect backsides. The girls give full credit to lunging and jumping on the sand, saying it’s “the hardest workout!”
After leaving this event, I filled the trunk of my Honda Civic with bags of sand from Home Depot. I wrote this article in sand.
2. Kevin Love
Regardless of who your NBA team is, there’s no denying that Kevin Love is the real deal. One of the leagues top rebounders, the 6’10” Minnesota Timberwolves power forward holds the modern day record for the longest streak of consecutive games recording double-doubles at 53, breaking Hall of Famer Moses Malone’s record of 51. He helped lead Team USA to the gold medal in 2010 and enjoyed a stellar college basketball career at UCLA. He is also hilarious. Love’s funny man personality has made him a fan favorite on and off the court!
With sponsorship from Jose Cuervo, you know an event is going to be awesome! Who doesn’t love a margarita on a hot summer day? Here are the only five ingredients you need to make your own, while you watch Jose Cuervo Volley Ball Series:
- 1 OZ. JOSE CUERVO TEQUILA
- 3 OZ. JOSE CUERVO MARGARITA MIX
- 1 CUP ICE
- LIME WEDGE
Rub the rim of a chilled Margarita glass with the lime, dip it in the salt to coat it. Combine all the other ingredients in a shaker, shake vigorously- and voila! Don’t say TSJ never taught you anything.
4. We Got Video!
If you have up to this point been mourning the fact that this article isn’t overflowing with pictures of beach volleyball girls, that can be easily remedied by watching the above video. Oh, and Kevin Love and Jose Cuervo are in it too.
