You’ve got to give it up for Khadija Ahmed. The woman has balls. She opened a sex shop in Bahrain, a country that, although considered one of the most liberal regions in the Middle East, hardly strikes us as an ideal spot to open a boutique specializing in kinky. But so far Ahmed has only had to contend with a couple challenges: Complaints from neighbors forced her to put her display window mannequins in short dresses instead of lingerie; and a shipment of massage tools and vibration rings recently got held up at customs en route to her store. But all things considered, those hiccups aren’t so bad—which is exactly why Ahmed plans to open more stores throughout the Middle East. One thing, though—you won’t find any vibrators here. Those aren’t allowed if you’re a follower of Islam.
