14 Amazing Film Cameos

14. Beverly Hills Cop III

THE CAMEO: George Lucas.

WHY YOU PROBABLY MISSED IT: That T-shirt is so awful that you can’t look away from it.

13. The Blues Brothers

THE CAMEO: Steven Spielberg.

Blues Brothers

WHY YOU PROBABLY MISSED IT: It is hard to picture one of the most easily-recognizable people on Earth blending in anywhere outside of the Oscars, but after his cameo in The Blues Brothers we’ll be damned if Steven Spielberg doesn’t come off as one of the most convincing “that guy” in cinematic history.

12. The Godfather

THE CAMEO: Sofia Coppola.

WHY YOU PROBABLY MISSED IT: Because she’s just a baby, it would have been difficult to take in what a terrible actress she would become.

11. Taxi Driver

THE CAMEO: Martin Scorsese.

WHY YOU PROBABLY MISSED IT: Because it just might be the single most convincing performance ever delivered by a director. Seriously, it’s hard to command four minutes worth of film in a scene with Robert DeNero, never mind one where DeNero’s online line is “Yeah.”

Taxi Driver

10. Rocky

THE CAMEO: Frank Stallone.

WHY YOU PROBABLY MISSED IT: We know what you’re thinking — who’s Frank Stallone?

9. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

THE CAMEO: Dan Aykroyd.

WHY YOU PROBABLY MISSED IT: He’s talking pretty fast in a funny accent at a distance, so he’s pretty easy to miss. Aside from that, why would anyone want to acknowledge that 1941 existed?

8 & 7. Hot Fuzz

THE CAMEO(S): Peter Jackson and Cate Blanchett.

WHY YOU PROBABLY MISSED IT: Seriously, why would anybody want to hide their faces in an Edgar Wright movie? If it was us, we’d be standing under a billboard with a big arrow pointing to us. We love his movies.

6. The Hudsucker Proxy

Fargo, Intolerable Cruelty, and The Ladykillers

Yup, the Chin himself has appeared in more Coen Brothers movies than George Clooney.

THE CAMEO: Bruce Campbell.

WHY YOU PROBABLY MISSED IT: Bruce Campbell has the chameleon-like qualities of a fake Shemp when he wants to, so you can’t blame him for coming off so convincingly as a soap opera actor. Besides, if there was any actor who could tie every Coen Brothers movie together in one grand continuity, who better for the job than this man?

His name is Bruce.

5 & 4. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

THE CAMEO: Michael Sheard, aka Admiral Ozzel from The Empire Strikes Back… as Hitler.

Also, Ronald Lacey, better known as Toht from Raiders of the Lost Ark, showed up in the same scene as Gestapo chief Heinrich Himmler.

WHY YOU PROBABLY MISSED IT: As far as fictional characters go, it’s hard to picture anyone better to play Heinrich Himmler and Adolf Hitler than a creepy maniac and a bumbling dumbass.

3. Young Frankenstein

THE CAMEO: Gene Hackman.

WHY YOU PROBABLY MISSED IT: It might have seemed a little odd to see Jimmy “Popeye” Doyle in a comedy so long before The Royal Tenenbaums. Other than that, we’re more interested in whether this cameo took place before or after his “epic” sex with Cloris Leachman.

2. Batman: The Animated Series

Batman & Robin, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises

THE CAMEO: Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT).

WHY YOU PROBABLY MISSED IT: The dude was animated in the TV show and had only a brief role in the Dark Knight movies. As for Batman & Robin, can you blame him for keeping a low profile?

1. Raiders of the Lost Ark

THE CAMEO: R2-D2 and C-3PO.

WHY YOU PROBABLY MISSED IT: Seriously, this is why they invented the Internet…

This one even appears in the Indiana Jones LEGO set.
