Sole Mates: Playmates and Air Jordans

Debate, admire, use as wallpaper, criticize – Playboy.com’s Sole Mates feature (NSFW) serves several purposes. Having Playmates pose on, in or alongside the 23 coolest Air Jordans of all time is the perfect melding of two longstanding brands. The only thing that would be cooler is if we could have a pair of Air Jordans and a Playmate. A guy can dream.

A bit about Sole Mates:

Playboy.com went to sneaker guru Matt Halfhill, owner of Austin-based Nice Kicks, to not only rank the top 23 Air Jordans of all time but provide us with the sneakers. Halfhill owns somewhere between 200-300 pairs of Air Jordans. Now, ranking these wasn’t the easiest of tasks. Each has its own story and each has some type of sentimental value to Halfhill. Spike Lee’s got nothing on Francesca Frigo, who puts a Playboy spin on the Mars Blackmon video that was also recently recreated by NBA Rookie of the Year Blake Griffin. Nice try, Blake. Francesca asks: is it the shoes or the boobs? We answer: why not both? And she might as well include that cotton-tailed butt of hers into the equation.

For the behind-the-scenes video shoot of the Sole Mates feature, we brought in life-sized Air Jordans, nine Playmates and Banksy, and told them to….Ok, there’s no fooling you. But conceptualizing the feature, from the classic Playmate pinup style to the photography, illustrations and image teching with the Air Jordans took a lot of man hours.
