It was a movie they said couldn’t be made. It was a movie that should never have been made. Swords, sandals, sex and Malcolm McDowell in a career-stunting performance. It was … Caligula!
That was 1979, an era when a madman like Bob Guccione could convince (or simply pay) otherwise respectable people to make an arty porno. It was written by Gore Vidal, directed by Italian assman Tinto Brass, and by all accounts it was unwatchable, satisfying neither porn fans nor mainstream moviegoers. Roger Ebert walked out of it.
Porn went in some wacky directions in the years that followed, as chronicled in Boogie Nights, and in today’s sex-on-a-shoestring Bangbus world it really would take a madman to film an adult historical epic with high production values.
A madman, or perhaps a mad … woman? Perhaps “Mad” Miko Lee? She’s one of the producers of Spartacus XXX. Check out the trailer, which is unlike any porno trailer I’ve ever seen:
From the looks of the trailer, it might not even be a porno! (Oh, but it is, sources assure me. It very much is.) Where are the hot babes? Well, there are plenty — the cast includes Devon Lee, Miko Lee, Tanya Tate, Gracie Glam, Andy San Dimas, Jenna Presley, Melanie Rios, Carina Roman, Charlie Chase and Nicole Aniston.
Some are pictured below; film will be coming out November-ish.
