The girl calls herself a “spiritual gangster” — and while we’re not sure what that means, exactly, we think it must be good. Roxiny’s tunes (you say her name “Rox-E-n-E”) blend pop, reggae, and hip-hop into one laid back mix tape. While most artists feel they’ve arrived once signed to a major record label, for Dominican-born and internationally raised (girl’s lived in Italy, Spain, Panama & more!) singer-songwriter, Roxiny, walking away from a coveted Sony deal was just the first step in staying true to her craft. “I never wanted to be a major label construct,” she says. “I needed the time and space to grow into my most genuine self.”
We’re digging on “Cheree”, a hit off her newly released EP, Karma.
