Giveaway Day 12, Part One: AR.Drone and Basketball Signed by Steve Nash

Posted 12/21/2010 at 10:00 am by

TSJ has always believed in the power of giveaways–and in our kickass readers the past few months. As our way of giving back for the holidays, we’re rolling out our biggest giveaways yet with our 12 Days of Giveaways free shit blowout. Every weekday for the next few weeks, we’ll be giving away everything from DVDs and books to gadgets and furniture for you to stuff your own stocking. Keep your eye out for the daily post to see how you can win hundreds of dollars worth of freebies.

It’s the final day of our 12 Days of Giveaways blowout, and we’ve saved the best for last. Today’s prizes are pretty much jaw-dropping.

A few weeks ago, we showed you what happens when you put two cameras, Wi-Fi and iPhone-operated controls on four spinning blades: the Parrot AR.Drone, a model helicopter straight from the future. This thing is a beast. Use its two cameras to remotely see what your Drone sees from your iPod or iPhone, then use that to control its flight pattern and make it hover mid-air or swoop down for a sneak attack. Plus, it can use its two cameras for virtual reality games using one or more of the drones, meaning you can use these things to engage your friends in mid-air combat and search-and-destroy missions. Basically, it’s a personal helicopter, evolved.

Take one part AR.Drone and add a healthy splash of Steve Nash, and you’ll be drinking up today’s first giveaway in a jiffy: we’ve got a Parrot AR.Drone signed by Steve Nash, plus a Steve Nash-signed basketball and a second new-in-box AR.Drone in today’s contest.

Steve Nash is, of course, the two-time NBA MVP point guard for the Phoenix Suns and an all around classy guy. Above, you can watch him explain the AR.Drone and give it a quick flight around the court, demonstrating its impressive capabilities. The thing hovers, it flies, and you can observe all the action right from your phone’s screen. With this thing, the possibilities for pranks and fun are virtually endless.

One lucky winner will get a Parrot AR.Drone signed by the man himself, on its removable hull. Another will get a Steve Nash autographed basketball and a third will get a brand new AR.Drone of their own. Santa was good to TSJ this year, so we’re passing on the goodwill- just follow the instructions below to win:

Go to Parrot’s Facebook page (click here) and watch all of Steve Nash’s videos demonstrating the Parrot’s abilities. Then come back here, and in the comments, answer this question: in one of the videos, Steve has to complete a certain number of maneuvers with the AR.Drone in a minute. What’s the maneuver and how many does he complete? Then tell us what you’d do with an AR.Drone- a game you’d invent or how you’d use the Drone- and explain why the Drone would make your life complete.

All commenters must answer the first question correctly to be eligible to win. The commenter with the best use for a Drone wins a Steve Nash signed Parrot AR.Drone, and two runners-up with the second and third best uses win a Steve Nash signed basketball and a new-in-box AR.Drone, respectively.

Giveaway closes Thursday, Dec. 23.

Be sure to provide a legit e-mail address when you comment so we can contact you.

Sorry, U.S. contestants only.

That’s it! Easy, right? Get inventive- if Nash and his buddy Brendan can play soccer with theirs, what can you dream up?

Definitely be sure to stop by later today for our final 12 Days of Giveaways prize. You’ll flip when you see it.

He asks to for us to try to see how many times we can circle ourselves in a minute. He completed 12 circles. I would love to have one of these they look so fun.I would have to terrorize the neighbor hood kids in my apartment complex. They would never know what was going on.

The maneuver is the circle and he does 12 circles around himself.

The maneuver, as everyone has already pointed out, is to fly circles around yourself, and Steve was able to get 12 rotations in a minute. If I were to win an AR.Drone, I would first have to hack my Android phone to use it, and then use it to fly up and spy on some Cubs games at Wrigley or Bears games when I don’t have tickets (not that I would’ve paid for Cubs tickets this season anyway). Now THAT would be a good use for this thing!

Maneuver is seeing how many times we can fly circles around ourselves. Steve accomplished 12 x’s in a minute.

I would like this to play a prank on my husband when he gets home from work one day. He has not seen this and would love this once my prank was over. I would be a hero!!

It’s called “circles in a minute” and Steve does 12 of them.

I would use it to get a different perspective on where I live, NYC. Flying this thing 12-15 feet above everyone would be such an incredible view because everyone’s always in such a rush to get everywhere and probably wouldn’t even notice it above them. It’d be a bird’s eye view of life here but much more intimate than any other because it’s so close to the people.

Steve Nash preforms the challenge “The Circles,” and completes 12 circles around himself in 1 minute.

My friend has a AR.Drone, and he always flaunts it when I go over to his place. If I won the Drone, we could battle against each other on the iPhone against each other. There is a mode where the Drones can do head to head against another Drone and it looks like you are firing missiles at the other drone on your iPhone screen.

We also would fly in missions around the neighborhood to spy on people and scare them while they are outside.

Steve is flying circles around himself, he completes 12 of them in one minute. If I were to win the Drone, I would wear out my dog in the yard. He is only 2, and is full of energy…but after some laps around the yard chasing an uncatchable Drone, he might chill out for once.

The manuever is flying circles around him and he completes 12 circles in a minute.
I would use the AR Drone as a flying dinner tray. Alot of fun while at the same time brings me dinner
