All of the hints and tidbits and info we’ve heard about The Foo Fighters upcoming album, Wasting Light (out April 12), has us thinking it’s going to be a great one.
For starters, they recorded the album on analog gear in Dave Grohl’s garage. That’s not usually an environment that lends itself to piano ballads. Another sign pointing to Wasting Light being filled with the good rock is the fact that Butch Vig, the man behind the boards for Nirvana’s breakthrough Nevermind album, is handling the production duties.
But wait, there’s more! For the first time since 1997′s unspeakably awesome The Colour and the Shape, punk legend Pat Smear is back in the fold as a full-time member of the band.
So far, we’ve been treated to a raucous, Lemmy Kilmister fueled video for the hard rocking “White Limo” and a brief snippet of the sounds-incredible-so-far “Bridge Burning.”
In keeping with the signs of good things to come, now comes the first official single off Wasting Light, which is a balls-to-the-wall burner called “Rope.” It’s available as a digital download starting March 1st and as a freebie to fans who pre-order Wasting Light on iTunes.

Pretty bad ass! A much appreciated ‘welcome back’ to the Foo Fighters. I hope the rumor is true that they’ll be one of the headliners at Lollapalooza this summer.

It’s not a new direction for the band, but you can hear the influence time spent with Josh Homme had on Dave Grohl, the early vocals being the best example. For die-hard fans it’s not too far away from earlier works and will undoubtedly have 3 or 4 tracks the radio will play until we can all name that tune in less than 4 notes. Also, yay new Foo Album.
