Very sad news from the world of stand up comedy today. TMZ.com is reporting that Comedy Central Roast regular and all around top notch comic Greg Giraldo has passed away from an accidental overdose of prescription medication at the age of 44.

Not a lot of details are available at this time, but a representative for the comedian said the overdose was not a suicide attempt and his family was at his side when he passed.

Tributes and kind words are already starting to come in from the stand up comedy community, including this Tweet from the great Jim Norton.

Very sad news indeed. Our thoughts are with Greg’s family, friends and fans. Greg Giraldo was immensely talented and funny and will be sorely missed.
