“Great Scott, TSJ! You’re giving away five copies of the Back to the Future trilogy on Blu-Ray on its release date? …Heavy.”

Damn right, we are. The Smoking Jacket wants to pay homage to all things Back to the Future this week, with fun features, exclusive videos and, most importantly, cool stuff to give away to our loyal readers. There are more giveaways coming later this week, but we think you’ll really like this one.

The Back to the Future trilogy, 25th anniversary edition on Blu-Ray is fantastically jam-packed with bonus features and featurettes on the making of all three films. Watch interviews with director Robert Zemeckis and co-writer Bob Gale on how they came up with the concepts for the films in the six-part documentary “Tales From the Future,” outtakes and deleted scenes, and footage from the making of the incredible sets and special effects wizardry.

We want to give you a chance to win your own copy of the 25th Anniversary edition of the trilogy on Blu-Ray. But you have to work a little first:

In the comments below, tell us what you would do with the Delorean if you got your hands on it. What year would you travel to? Who would you visit/meet? And what would you try to change, if anything? Answer all of these questions, and the five best responses win Blu-Ray copies of the movie.

Giveaway closes Friday, Oct. 29.

Be sure to provide a legit e-mail address when you comment so we can contact you.

Sorry, U.S. contestants only.

We have more Back to the Future-related giveaways coming this week, so stay tuned. Good luck!

If I had the Delorean I would travel back in time just to spend the day with my relatives who passed away when I was a child. I would give anything just to see my Dad, Grandmother, & Great-Great Grandmother just one more time. I would definitely take my 6 year old son with me. I would just be very careful not to run into myself when I’m there.hehe

If i had the Delorean I would go back to 1997 because it was when my dad was able to get around really well and he was still alive.

I would travel back to 10:30 PM on December 8, 1980. I would visit New York, New York and I would go to the Dakota and try to stop the assassination of John Lennon because the world would be a truly better place if someone could have stopped it from happening.

If I had the Delorean, I would go back and meet my relatives that I was never able to meet so I could get a better idea of who I am and how I got here. I would also try to go back and change all the things that have gone wrong in my life. Of course changing these events would tear the fabric of the space/time continuum therefore altering my present. But who cares!!! That would be fun!!!

If I had the DeLorean, I would travel back to 1787 and show the Framers of the Constitution how future generations of congressmen would interpret their writings, so that maybe they would better define what they meant so that we would not have the mess we were in today.

My father past away from cancer about 6 years ago. If I had just once chance; just one opportunity to even spend just 5 minutes again with him, I would. I am getting married this coming January and the hardest part is not having him here to share the experience. I’d go back far enough in time to make sure he changes his life enough and to start seeing his doctors much earlier. Even if I had just one use of the DeLorean time machine, there is no question in my mind that is what I would chose.

I would load the Delorean with junk, go into future, and sell it as antiques. That money could buy video equipment beyond our wildest imaginations. After loading up the tech, I’d head back in time and shoot period pieces.. in period.

It’s tough being an independent and shooting/ working on shoestrings… but time travel would help a lot.

I would take the whole bloody thing apart, figure out how it worked, then make a whole mini-fleet of time machines for rent, maybe in an Enzo shell, a Gullwing for sure, probably a GT40, and a Bugatti Veyron. Then I’d take the original forward, check my work and my business model, and pop back for some minor adjustments every so often. Why go to space when you can go back to the future? Eat your heart out, Sir Richard Branson.

Oh, and Spielberg, MJ Fox, and the rest from the original could take one out for free whenever they want. I’d make one especially for Christopher Lloyd, for his own collection.

First stop would be Sept 10 2001 and contact the authorities as to the events planned for the next day then to 2004 and warn every congress and senate person of the future economic crisis due to sub-prime and adjustable rate mortgages.

1974 and would have seen Led Zeppelin live. John Bonham was awesome. And, of course, gone to any other ridiculous venues from that era. I wouldn’t change much of anything. But, I would have purchased a hellacious amount of Wal-Mart stock.

I just want to go back and do college all over again. Not only am I “older and wiser” in the ways of the opposite sex, I’d actually like to go back and actually pay attention in all of those classes I snoozed through! One of my biggest regrets in life is that I didn’t take full advantage of all of the learning opportunities that were right within my grasp.

I’ll travel back…all the way back…to the time of Jesus. I’m going to find out if everything that was said is true. I’m not going to change anything ’cause Doc Brown told me to not interact with anything that could change the future!

I would go back to Sept 10th 2001 and warn about the attacks. Then I would buy a bunch of stock in Apple in October…the month the original Ipod came out.

With the money I made I would go to every Playboy Super Bowl Party!

If I had a Delorean I would travel back in time to the year 1975. Why you ask? I would become great friends with John DeLorean as he was creating his automobile company, so I could become a partner in his venture. I would then advise him on how to handle his company properly so it would not go bankrupt and instead became a major player in the automobile industry. I know this seems strange, but how awesome would it be to still have Deloreans around? How cool would it be to see them all over the roads? There’s nothing sexier than a stainless steel ride with gull wing doors. Now that I think about it, maybe I would work on a hover conversion for it so we wouldn’t need roads. Hell, while I was back in the year 1975, maybe I would check out the Thrilla in Manila as well.

I would take the DeLorean back to really anytime in the 1940′s, when my grandfather was in his thirties and in the military. I would have found him wherever he was living at the time and I would have loved to have gotten retarded drunk with him. He died before I was born, and, from all accounts, was a ton of fun to party with. I would have loved to have done that. And traveling through time would be bad ass.

Go back to 1955 and get the Sports Almanac, probably not make a casino in Hilldale, but definitely get rich on betting on games and races. Then build a mansion on a deserted island in Jamaica and pay off all my family’s debts.

I would go back to 1950. I would find my grandfather and tell him about starting a new company, called Playboy. I would give him some investor starting money so he could get the ball rolling. Every guy wants to be Hugh Hefner, I wouldn’t be so greedy. My grandfather would be the new Hugh Hefner and I would be the grandson of the playboy founder. Grotto here I come!!

I would go back in time to 4 years and 4 days before I was born to May 25th, 1977 and attend the opening of “Star Wars” (when it was just Star Wars and not “SW IV: A New Hope”).

I’ve seen the Special Edition in theaters, but I’ve never seen the original in the theaters. I would love to experience something that was so pivotal to my youth and just share it all these people in a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

I would go back in time to when “The Sixth Sense” was released in theaters and spoil the ending before anyone had a chance to watch it. then I’d say “I just saved you from becoming an M. Night Shymalan fan, which keeps you from wasting the next ten years on crap movies. But watch ‘Unbreakable’ because it’s decent…”

If I got my hands on the Delorian I would go back about five minutes ago and tell myself to write something a little more profound and meaningful so that I could win this contest because my wife simply refuses to let me buy these blu rays, I’d also probably knock that soda out of my hand so that I could go to bed at a reasonable time. While I was at it I’d go ahead and go back to the time of the dinosaurs take a quick pee and travel back to the present just to see what the hell would happen, that’s about it.

If I got my hands on the Delorean, I would go back in time (around late 1984) to meet BTTF director Bob Zemeckis, and talk him into letting me as an extra with a very small part in the movie. I would also consider going back in time to buddy-up with one of the editors of this website. That way, they would know me well and consider me as a strong contender to win one of the BTTF blu-rays!

I really wouldn’t go back in time to change anything, other than to give me a small credit in the greatest movie of all time!

If I got my hands on the Delorean, I would travel back to 1984 and convince BTTF director Bob Zemeckis that this movie will be a smash hit, and to make at least 10 more sequels all in a row so we could have enjoyed more of them. The only thing I would try to change is to, in exchange for the success of the movies, to have Zemeckis promise me a copy of the movies when they come out on Blu-Ray in the year 2010.

If the Delorean fell into my hands, I would go back to ancient BC and persuade the Egyptians to reformulate the measure of time so it inevitably adds a completely new decade in our history. I would then travel to that time and join with the rest of humanity in designing a brand new and totally awesome period of existence.

If I had my hands on that delorean, I would be selfish and go back to 2006, the year my 15 yr old was killed in a car accident. I would keep her home for the day and never let her ride in anyone’s car again.
